  • Introduction to Modern Endodontics
  • Assessment of Endodontic Complexity
  • Importance of Isolation: Rubber Dam Protocol
  • Root Canal Anatomy & Access Cavity Design
  • Working Length Determination
  • Chemo-Mechanical Canal Preparation & Disinfection

Hands-On Practical

  • Rubber Dam Placement & Isolation Techniques
  • Access Cavity Preparation

Day 2 – Full Practical Endodontic Training

A full day of supervised hands-on training covering:

  • Canal Preparation Techniques
  • Irrigation & Disinfection Protocols
  • Obturation Techniques
  • Emergency Pain Management & Post-Operative Care
  • The Importance of Magnification in Endodontics

What You'll Learn

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the principles of predictable endodontic treatment.
  • Assess endodontic case complexity with greater confidence.
  • Achieve effective isolation using a rubber dam.
  • Prepare accurate access cavities while preserving tooth structure.
  • Determine working length correctly and carry out effective canal preparation.
  • Apply evidence-based irrigation and disinfection protocols.
  • Perform predictable obturation techniques.
  • Manage common endodontic emergencies and post-operative complications.

Appreciate the role of magnification in improving treatment outcomes

    • Overview of endodontics and the role of the dentist.
    • Basic principles and goals of root canal therapy.
  2. Assessment of Endodontics complexities (1 hour)
    • Pulp physiology and pathology as it relates to diagnosis in endodontic disease.
    • Pain management in endodontics.
  3. Importance of Isolation: Rubber Dam (30 mins)
    • Importance of rubber dam for isolation and infection control.
    • Step-by-step guide for effective rubber dam placement.
    • Overview of sterilisation and infection control protocols in endodontics.
  4.  Canal Anatomy & Access (1.5 hours)
    • Understanding root canal anatomy.
    • How to assess restorability and prepare access cavities.
    • Understanding of conservative access cavity preparation.
    • Special diagnostic tests and aids.
    • Importance of identifying anatomical variations (e.g., curved canals, accessory canals).
  5. Working Length Determination and Chemo-Mechanical Preparation and Disinfection (30 mins)
    • Principles of canal irrigation for cleaning and disinfection.
    • Determining working length using apex locators.

Afternoon (2 Hours of Practical):

  1. Rubber Dam Placement & Isolation (1 hour)
    • Hands-on practice placing a rubber dam on models or extracted teeth.
    • Participants will isolate a tooth and prepare it for treatment.
  2. Access Cavity Preparation (1 hour)
    • Practical session where participants will practice opening access cavities on extracted teeth.
    • Focus on the correct design and location of the access, considering the tooth’s anatomy.

Day 2: Full Practical Day

Morning & Afternoon (6 Hours of Practical):

  1. Canal Preparation (2 hours)
    • Hands-on practice using hand files, rotary instruments, and reciprocating files.
    • Participants will practice creating a glide path, shaping, and finishing the canal.
    • Supervised practice to ensure correct technique and canal morphology.
    • Ensuring safe instrumentation and avoiding procedural errors like ledges and perforations.
  2. Irrigation & Disinfection (1 hour)
    • Irrigation methods and protocols.
    • Practical demonstration of cleaning the canal system to achieve optimal disinfection.
  3. Obturation Techniques (1.5 hours)
    • Hands-on obturation practice using cold lateral condensation and warm vertical techniques.
    • Participants will fill the prepared canal with gutta percha, ensuring an appropriate seal and adequate compaction.
  4. Emergency Pain Control & Post-Operative Management (1 hour)
    • Clinical scenarios of endodontic emergencies and management.
  5. The Importance of Magnification in Endodontics (30 mins)
    • Introduction to the use of a dental microscope and loupes for improving visibility during root canal therapy.
    • Hands-on practice with the microscope to assist in access cavity preparation and canal shaping.
